  • Business of the Month Business of the Month

Portales Police Department was named Business of the Month for June by the Chamber. Pictured receiving the award with Chief Christopher Williams were administration staff and some of the Department’s newer officers. The nominator said they were thankful for the way the PPD has kept the community safe. They also noted their efforts above and beyond for directing traffic after events, parades and other community activities.

  • Volunteer of the Month Volunteer of the Month

The many volunteers of Angel Ministries, the non-profit that founded Consigning Women, were named Volunteers of the Month by the Chamber for June. The organization was established after it’s founder Sheila Savitz experienced the loss of a son to drug addiction. She wanted to have the non-profit to help those in similar situations break free and to serve the community at large by having a place to buy needed items at a low price. The nominator noted that the non-profit has been very generous to ENMU students who have found themselves struggling to make ends meet. Besides providing items free or at low cost, store manager Debbie Martinez says they allow persons needing court-ordered community service a place to work off their time. The store has also established a food pantry for those in need. To volunteer at the store or just help out by shopping the unique inventory, stop by 104 S. Ave. A in Portales.
