Portales Pride Cards on sale

The Retail Committee of the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce recently launched the “Shop Local, Show Your Pride” campaign in Portales.

The idea is to encourage shopping at home through use of a shopper’s card that entitles the holder to discounts and specials at participating Chamber businesses.

The cards are available at the Chamber and cost $5. The cardholder can designate $3 of the purchase price to go to either United Way, the Christian Children’s Home or the Baptist Children’s Home. The other $2 goes toward the materials for the program.

The back of the card has a QR code that can be scanned by a mobile device to bring up the specials being offered by each business.

“When you see the logo displayed in a business you can check their special or discount on your mobile right then or ask a store employee,” said Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry. “People can also see the offerings by clicking on the ‘Hot Deals’ button on our website portales.com. The program launched with 15 specials listed.”

Participation is free to Chamber businesses and they can change their special or discount as often as they like.

The cards will need to be renewed once a year.

“Everyone wins when we shop at home,” said Terry. “We hope the stickers in business windows are a reminder of that and who doesn’t like a special deal.”
