Little Miss Merry Christmas seeks contestants

Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassadors announced the upcoming deadline for girls age 5-10 to enter the 2020 Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest.
 
As a part of Portales’ holiday tradition, the Little Miss Merry Christmas Contest fundraises to help decorate Portales for Christmas. The contest runs from Tuesday, Nov. 10 until 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2. An official pre-parade Coronation Ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 will be held on Facebook Live to announce and crown the winner.
 
The contestant that raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through additional fundraising efforts will be crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas with all runners-up receiving the title of Princess. Previous winners, those who were crowned Little Miss Merry Christmas, are ineligible to re-enter the contest. Last year the contest raised nearly $17,000.
 
All contestants must attend an information meeting on Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9. Each contestant should turn in their completed entry form including sponsor information and a photo of the contestant to appear on the poster and in the media and online prior to the meeting.
                                                                                                                                                                      
This year’s Lighted Christmas Parade will take a radical new direction in order implement COVID-Safe practices. Instead of having the parade traveling down the streets of Portales and crowds congregating along the route, the parade will be set up in static display starting at Abilene and Third Street going south and around City Park. The community is invited to view the parade from the socially distanced, heated comfort of their own car by driving by. Make the loop more than once, honk at your favorite entries and listen in on Facebook Live as we crown Little Miss Merry Christmas.
