• Jana Stanfield to host benefit concert

Popular recording artist, songwriter, and everyday philanthropist, Jana Stanfield will bring laughter and music to Clovis, to help a local woman who is hoping to walk again.

Everyone is invited to Jana Stanfield family show, on Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. to benefit Twilla Kos, who was critically injured near Tres Ritas two weeks ago when her 4-wheeling adventure with husband Mark Kos ended tragically.

Stanfield’s songs, heard in movies like “8 Seconds” about the rodeo rider Lane Frost, have earned platinum album status for over 5 million copies sold. You’ve heard her compositions on 20/20, Entertainment Tonight, Oprah, the Jerry Lewis Telethon,  and radio stations around the world, sung by artists like Reba McEntire and others.  Stanfield has shared stages with Kenny Loggins, the Dixie Chicks, and recently, she headlined a comedy festival with Jay Leno.

Stanfield has been in town caring for her dad, former Marshall Junior High math teacher James Stanfield, who recently had open-heart surgery.

She was moved by the story of Twila and Mark Kos, who were celebrating their anniversary with a week-long trip, riding two 4-wheelers through the mountains.  When Twilla Kos arrived at a place that was too steep for her liking, she stopped, and chose to back down the hill.  Unfortunately, the 4-wheeler hit an obstacle, causing it to double back onto Kos.  When the 4-wheeler flipped backwards, Kos was underneath, fracturing bones in her neck that have resulted in paralysis from the neck down that family and friends are hoping we be able to be treated at Craig Hospital in Denver.

Kos, who can’t yet breath on her own without a ventilator, passed the tests to be accepted to the exclusive spinal injury treatment center at Craig.  The acceptance means that the hospital team there believes there is hope for Twilla, if she can be transferred to the well-known spinal injury center in Denver where people like “Superman” Christopher Reeve was treated.
Stanfield’s concert gives friends and family a chance to donate to help with the expenses of Kos’ transfer to Denver and the expenses for family members who will be staying with her during her treatment. The concert will feature Instagram videographers in the lobby so that friends and co-workers of the Kos family can send personal messages by video to Twila.

Arriving in Clovis from Cambodia, Stanfield is known for the international tour group she founded called Jana Stanfield’s Trip Tribe. Stanfield travels the world performing music, leading trips, and doing service projects in Australia, Canada, Borneo, Bali, Mexico, Ecuador, India, Peru, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Italy, France, Sri Lanka and Morocco. Her Trip Tribe is open to anyone who is interested in being helpful while creating global friendships.  In November, she’ll be taking 35 people to Turkey.

She has eight CDs out. You might relate to the title of one of them. It’s called, “I’m Not Lost, I’m Exploring.”
