• J.P. Stone Community Bank sponsoring 9/11 ceremony

    PORTALES, NM --- A special 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held this Thursday morning, September 11th, in Portales.
    The 9/11 ceremony will begin at 7:30 a.m. MDT Thursday outside the James Polk Stone Community Bank near the flagpole at the corner of First Street and Abilene Avenue in downtown Portales.
    The 30-minute ceremony will feature a military color guard from Cannon Air Force Base’s 27th Special Operations Wing, stationed in eastern New Mexico.
    This year’s guest speaker will be Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Deputy Malin Parker.
    Amy Carter of Portales, who is a freshman at Eastern New Mexico University, will sing patriotic music.
    The 9/11 Memorial Ceremony in Portales, held every year since 2001, is organized by JP Stone Community Bank president David Stone as a way to ensure the events of September 11th are not forgotten and to honor the service of area first responders in fire departments and law enforcement agencies, as well as our nation’s military personnel.
    The public is invited to attend Thursday morning’s special 9/11 Memorial Ceremony in Portales.
