• Damsels in Distressed to open

    PORTALES, NM—The Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation (RCCDC) is pleased to announce a new business opening in Portales.

    Damsels in Distressed is a custom home décor and accents shop specializing in unique indoor and outdoor creations, furniture, wall art, gifts, and made to order items. Many selections are made from re-purposing and refinishing of new and old wood, as well as furniture to create beautiful home pieces. The business is family owned and operated by Lezlie Privett and daughter-in-law, Amanda Privett. Damsels in Distressed evolved from years of enjoying the art of re-purposing, refinishing, and restoration. The Privetts are a well-known business family, having owned and operated Privett Electric since 1996.

    Damsels in Distressed is located at 1408 South Ave. D. in Portales. Grand opening is slated for Saturday November 5, 2016, just in time for holiday shopping! Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturdays, 10 am to 4 pm.

    RCCDC President Randy Knudson stated, "We are very glad to have Damsels in Distressed in the Portales business community. This adds to the uniqueness of Portales and all that it has to offer. The RCCDC encourages everyone to make Damsels in Distressed a place to go when shopping for home décor and accent items and gifts. We encourage everyone to support our local entrepreneurs."

    According to Lezlie Privett, co-owner of Damsels in Distressed, "We are very excited to offer our creations to the public. We have much to offer in unique home décor, and we take custom orders."

    The RCCDC was established in 1998 and was formed to preserve, expand, and promote the diverse regional economy through proactive engagement in business expansion and retention, entrepreneurial development, business recruitment, and community-oriented marketing for the City of Portales, Eastern New Mexico University, Roosevelt County, its citizens, and students.
