Chamber/MainStreet host candidates forum
The Roosevelt County Chamber and Portales MainStreet will host a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Yam Theatre, 219 S. Main in Portales.
The forum will feature candidates in the four open Portales city council races this year.
The forum moderator is Kevin Robbins with KSEL Country 105.9 FM.. He will ask candidates questions submitted by the local media.
Candidates will be allowed two minutes each for opening and closing remarks. The questions will start in ballot order and then rotate in reverse order after each question. They will be asked three to five questions. All seven candidates, including one in an uncontested race will be invited to participate.
“The Chamber has regularly held candidate forums in the past and we’re proud to have Portales MainStreet on board as a co-sponsor for this event,” Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry said.
“We believe it’s important for everyone to exercise their right to vote and being informed of the issues and the candidates’ qualifications is crucial.”
The forum will be broadcast live on KSEL Country 105.9 FM. With the help of the Portales High School Media Arts class, plans are for the forum to be available on the web. Check the Chamber’s website at www.portales.com or the Roosevelt County Chamber’s Facebook page for links.
The event is free to the public and refreshments will be served.
