Education and Schools

Portales has excellent educational opportunities available to the public, from a private Christian school to the Portales Municipal Schools.

There are five elementary schools (one new facility currently under construction), a new junior high and Portales High School, all of whom have successfully met the “No Child Left Behind” testing criteria.

Portales Municipal Schools has adopted the belief that “All students will be productive and successful citizens.” Consequently, Portales Municipal Schools has resolved that “All students will be provided a Quality Education.”

Eastern New Mexico University is the third largest state supported institution of higher learning. With branches in Roswell and Ruidoso, NM, courses of study vary from aviation maintenance to education to archaeology.
