The 17th Annual New Mexico Ag Expo will feature a new trainer this year and a fresh perspective on developing young horses. Scott Bagley from Dimmitt, TX will provide training in “Developing a Better Stock Horse.” Scott and his wife Jane Pruitt Bagley own Bagley Performance Horses and specialize in ranch horses that possess the maturity and training to be great show horses. The Bagley’s work from the philosophy that “good show horses are first good work horses.”
Scott starts all of their young horses in the BC Pre-conditioning Yard and while backgrounding wheat cattle. Bagley horses are raised with cattle for the purpose of working for a living- FIRST. The Bagley’s believe that this blue collar work ethic helps quietly mature their colts and provides them with a purpose of the maneuvers they will be called upon to perform in the showpen. The work ethic developed by the Bagley’s young horses helps instill the show ring becomes the easy part of their routine.”
This program will be a great learning opportunity for those in the horse business whether it be for work or pleasure. Scott will be working with young horses on cattle and demonstrating how to develop a young stock horse. “Building a Better Stock Horse will be offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on February 23, 2010 at the New Mexico Ag Expo located on the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds in Portales, NM.
