Portales is home to a wide variety of healthcare professionals offering services from dentistry, chiropractic services, mental health, optometry, home health care, physical therapy, urgent care and short-term and long-term care.
Roosevelt General Hospital was built in 2001 as a result of a dynamic community effort to bring local healthcare back to the community. The 22-bed hospital offers certified staff in respiratory and physical therapy, radiology, laboratory, dietary, social work and pharmacy. The emergency room is staffed 24/7 with trained ER physicians, nurses, and technicians and an on-call surgeon at all times.
The La Casa Family Health Center is also located in Portales and offers services in medical, dentistry, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics.
The City of Portales provides EMS and ambulance services through the Portales Fire Department. In addition to EMS training, many personnel are also paramedics. The department maintains state-of-the-art equipment. The Portales EMS system has been recognized for excellence on many occasions.
In addition to short-term care, Portales has facilities for long-term care, such as the BeeHive Assisted Living Home and Heartland Continuing Care.
