New Mexico Agricultural Expo Beneficial to Ag Industry Portales, NM — With the strong impact of agriculture on the economy of the state, the New Mexico Agricultural Expo, sponsored by Plateau Wireless and Hamilton Automotive Group, continues to thrive as the state’s premier trade show for the 14 th consecutive year. Reaching over a 100 mile radius, thousands of dairymen, ranchers and farmers attend the trade show to view the latest technological and industrial advancements. “We have one of the most intense and prime locations for an agricultural trade show,” said New Mexico State University County Extension Agricultural Agent Floyd McAlister. “The expo brings in the latest technology and services so those in attendance can utilize them in their operations. When agriculture does well, the rest of the communities in the state do well.” The New Mexico Ag Expo has proven to be successful for both the exhibitors and the attendees with a promising year ahead in 2006. Spectators at this year’s show will have an opportunity to win a brand new 16’ stock trailer. Registration for the drawing will be available at the show and is free to the public. The winner must be at least 18 years old. “The exhibitors tell us that they sell more here per number of attendees than any other show they go to,” McAlister stated. McAlister is responsible for scheduling the seminars and demonstrations and this year’s schedule promises to offer the latest in educational seminars and continuing education units. A few of the seminars included in this year’s Expo are: “Source and Age Verification of Beef Cattle” by Dr. Manny Encinias, Extension Livestock Specialist at New Mexico State University; “Herbicide and Chemical Update” by Dr. Mark Renz, Extension Weed Specialist at New Mexico State University; and “Using Reproduction Records to Assess Management” by Dr. Darron Smith, Animal Science Specialist at Eastern New Mexico University. With the continuing dominance of the agricultural industry throughout the state, over 400 vendors will fill more than 160 booths with products, technological advancements and services. Portales will host the 14th Annual New Mexico Agricultural Expo on Feb. 21–22. Exhibitor booth spaces are still available for the Expo. Inside booths are $375 for a 10-by-10 foot space.
