NEW MEXICO AG EXPO TO FEATURE DAIRY HEIFER SALE A dairy heifer sale will be held at the 12th Annual New Mexico Agricultural Expo, slated for Feb. 24-25 at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds. The sale will begin at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 with more than 200 two-year-old registered Holstein heifers going on the auction block. Randy Bouldin of Portales Livestock and Dairy Sale will be in charge of the auction. According to Bouldin, many of the heifers are coming from the surrounding areas of eastern New Mexico and West Texas. Floyd McAlister, Roosevelt County Extension Agent, said the heifers are sure to be of good quality as there is a big demand in the area for quality cattle, due to the increase in the dairy industry. Eastern New Mexico has one of the fastest growing dairy industries in the nation. The 2004 New Mexico Ag Expo, whose major sponsors include Plateau Wireless and New Mexico Bank and Trust, is expected to draw more exhibitors and spectators than ever before. The event is designed to highlight New Mexicos agricultural industry. This show will feature hundreds of farm and ranch-related vendors, as well as educational seminars and demonstrations. A womans building, an antique tractor show, a chuck wagon steak lunch, an antique auction and many more exciting events will abound at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds. Gates will open at 9 a.m. both days. Admission and parking are free. A 16-foot livestock trailer will be given away by registering at the gate.
